The Anatomy of a Movie Tagline

Movie WallMovie taglines serve an important role in marketing movies. We recently viewed a list of terribly bad movie taglines on old movie posters. One natural disaster movie, Earthquake featured the worst movie tagline ever with "An Event..." Ok, we are waiting to watch the event, maybe a earthquake.

Were movie tagline writers lazy back then? Or did the movie studios prefer to avoid giving out spoilers? A modern movie with Signs also selected a movie tagline, "It's happening". What is happening? A bad The Happening movie in the near future? What is really happening with these bad movie taglines?

The anatomy of a movie tagline involves constructing the best words that relate to the movie. We've seen the worst movie taglines ever. Now what are the best movie taglines?

The best movie taglines:

Face/Off movie tagline: "In order to catch him, he must become him"
Twelve Monkeys movie tagline: "The future is history"
Titanic movie tagline: "Nothing on Earth could come between them"
40 Year-Old Virgin movie tagline: "The Longer you Wait, the harder it gets"
Alien movie tagline: "In space no one can hear you scream"

The movie taglines are relevant to the premise. They deal out the best words to connect the movie plot. We get an idea of the storyline without having to think too hard. Writing good movie taglines is not as hard as it looks. In the next segment, we will continue part 2 of The Anatomy of a Movie Tagline. Thanks for reading.
