Author of the mega hit book and New York Times Best Seller The Fault in Our Stars, John Green, defended himself against a movie tagline he never created. Book fans challenged this The Fault in Our Stars movie tagline, "One Sick Love Story," as a sick joke for poking fun at cancer.
There are numerous movie taglines that can work. They, too, can be catchy but keep the focus on the sick protagonists who must fight to save their love instead of poking fun at a serious illness. Cancer is a destructive disease, that if terminal, may lead their victims down a dark road. In cancer survivors, living becomes ever important. Love for life is renewed.
However, John Green shares that he likes the symbolic meaning of this movie tagline. According to John Green, he doesn't believe that sick people should be viewed as learning lessons to help health people live better lives. Essentially, sick people can find love, too.
But for the most part, this movie tagline is clearly poking fun at this plot. Sick is used as a double entendre to show this is a super awesome love story but there are also ill people involved. We hear people refer to "sick" as this ride is sick and/or that is a sick joke.
This is not a good movie tagline to market The Fault in Our Stars. A better movie tagline is to include strong words with sentimental value.
